Should Today Should Be A Holiday; At Least in Washington?
How are you feeling today after the Seattle Seahawks' dominant Super Bowl win on Sunday?
Most 12s are feeling a sense of pride and maybe retribution for the soul-killing loss to the same New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
To crush New England, of all teams, and get revenge for the loss to New England the last time these teams met in the Super Bowl is extra sweet, as revenge goes. Need I remind you that Russell Wilson's interception at the goal line 11 years ago, instead of a handoff to Marshawn Lynch, prevented Seattle from winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles and ultimately triggered the team's near decade of futility? Yes, despite yesterday's win, that pain will never go away for Seahawk fans, but it's a lot easier to stomach now.

So now we get to revel in the victory, and the debate is resurrected as to whether the day after the Super Bowl should be a day off nationwide.
Should "Super Bowl Monday" be a thing?
Polling shows roughly half (48% to 55%) of respondents said yes, the day after the big game has so much reduced productivity across the country that it should be a day off. Some research pegs the lost productivity at between $5.8 and $6.2 billion (with a B) due to the effects of a late night on the East Coast and the amount of alcohol and party food consumption during the game day celebrations. Some 18 to 26 million people are expected to miss at least some work today.
Wait? Would MORE people taking the day off mean LESS loss of productivity? That flies in the face of logic, but I admit to feeling a little fatigued this morning. No, not hungover, but because of the quiet satisfaction from Sunday's win.
Perhaps Super Bowl Saturday makes more sense? Or playing the game on President's Day weekend with the built-in holiday on Monday. That is the case next year, actually, so we will get a test case, so to speak.
Still, I imagine Patriots fans are feeling even more effects after losing the Super Bowl and didn't want to get out of bed. I think Seahawks fans can relate.
Now let's have a parade and another day off.
