Seattle's concert venues have their own gravitational pull for Washington residents. A sprawling city with deep musical roots, Seattle's allure for music lovers is authentic. It's also expensive and stressful if you don't live in the city - from ticket prices and parking, to ride-shares and (for the truly brave) lodging. I've known a number of Eastern Washington residents to cancel on their Seattle concert plans just because they lacked the energy, or budget, to go through with them.

At nearly the same distance is Portland, Oregon, a city that takes pride in being eccentric and indie in its culture and music scene. Portland, however, often gets the same major concert tours that Seattle does at the fraction of the price and hassle. So I'm challenging you to give Portland concerts a try this year, starting with one of its most well known venues.
