This morning, I got a call from Mondo Gonzales. He invited me to a Quincy “Tortilla Flats” Reunion.

Mondo says his Quincy neighborhood, near what is today’s North Park, along C Street NE, was called “Tortilla Flats” because of the great smell of tortillas being prepared by his mom and other momma's, up and down the street.

At a recent funeral for a close friend, someone mentioned that people seem to only get together when a long time friend passes away. The idea of a “Tortilla Flats” Reunion was born right then and there.

Here is a video of a memorial I attended at Ann & Mondo’s place when Gavi Gill passed.

The first part of the Reunion is scheduled for 2pm Saturday July 29th at North Park - near the corner of C Street NE and Central Avenue in Quincy. Anyone is invited to hang out. You are encouraged to bring a side food item or dessert. Mondo and his good friends will bring the BBQ and cook up some amazing food!

I’ve personally tried Mondo’s BBQ - you’re in for some great chicken, pork or fish. The reunion will then shift over to Ann and Mondo’s place on the South part of town. Ask Ann or Mondo Gonzales for directions to their place. Even if you don’t personally know them, as I’ve discovered, you’ll quickly become part of the ring of long time friends and family members.

This get together is yet another reason why I love the community of Quincy, Washington!
