Lengthy Removal & Cleanup Of Homeless Encampment Near Cashmere Finally Complete

Authorities in North Central Washington have issued several details about the recent removal of a homeless encampment in a rural part of Chelan County.

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office says work to clear the encampment from the upper reaches of Hay Canyon about seven miles north-northeast of Cashmere began sometime in July.

The encampment was reportedly located on land owned by the U.S. Forest Service, who coordinated its removal with officials from Chelan County.

After the property had been cleared of any and all unauthorized inhabitants, it was then thoroughly cleaned up to include the removal of several large truck loads of debris, trash, and other waste.

Sheriff's officials say the process moved slower than many area property owners would have liked, and clean-up efforts were not fully completed until Aug. 20, but the mission of removing the encampment was eventually successful.

In a statement posted to social media, the Sheriff's Office thanked their partners at the U.S. Forest Service and other cooperating agencies for assisting with the endeavor.
