Six New Wildfires Now Under Control On Chelan & Methow Valley Ranger Districts
A round of recent lightning strikes have sparked a half-dozen new wildfires on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest which are now under control.
Three of the blazes had been burning on the Chelan Ranger District, including the two-acre Devore Fire about three miles north of Holden Village.
Officials with the U.S. Forest Service say the fire has been contained and crews are continuing to mop up and patrol for hot spots.
Firefighters have also managed to halt the nearby Water Tower Fire after it burned about one acre, and the Cooper Fire has also torched about a half-an-acre in the same vicinity but has now been brought under control.
Meanwhile, three other fires are burning on the Methow Valley Ranger District, the largest of which - the Smith Canyon Fire, has been contained after charring approximately six-and-a-half acres.
The nearby Upper Smith Fire has burned about one-and-a-half acres but has also been fully corralled, while the Goat Creek Fire has been completely contained after blackening about one-tenth-of-an-acre.
Forest officials say all of the fires likely ignited on or around Aug. 21-22.
