The Question Every Restaurant in the UK Asks and United States Should
I was in jolly old England for the past week and had a lovely time. The old brick buildings, the history, the heritage, the sounds of Big Ben chiming, the Thames river rolling, the double-decker busses running... Yeah, that's there, too. But, let's be real, I'm there for the food.
Yeah, it's fun to see all those things you see on TV but I'm always on the hunt for a new dining experience and London has some great eateries from places that do full English breakfasts to Sunday roast dinners, English tea service and so much more.
What caught my attention, after maybe the 3rd or 4th time I was asked, was a simple phrase that would be of massive help to many. Not only is it nice they're looking out for their fellow human but would also save a lot of time and worry to those who may not have even thought to bring it up.
"Are you allergic to anything?"
Nice, clean, simple, to the point.
Often times you'll be seated and before they take your order, they simply ask if anyone has any food allergies.
When I first heard this I thought it was a thoughtful thing to ask. Then, as we went out more and more, the question kept getting brought up to every place we went. Once place asked first, when we said we didn't, that's when they wrote something down on a sheet of paper at our table stating as such. Very neat.
I wish more businesses would do this as, though I don't, someone may and even if they don't order something they're allergic to the food may be prepped, or sometimes just by being in proximity to that food is enough to give someone a bad time.
